Hardware Sensor Indicator, i8kctl and sensors output all show temperatures below what should trigger any fan activity. I've disabled BIOS fan control with smm,, i8kutils i8kmon uses wrong thresholds after resuming from suspend.I'm using i8kmon and still get fans spinning at higher RPMs triggered at lower temperatures than the thresholds I've configured. I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 on a Dell Precision M6600. Setting the left fan speed has no effect. This model only has one fan, and it is identified as the right fan. It can also be tweaked from Windows Power Options and. Note that manually setting the fan profile has a drawback of not letting the fan reach full speed (6000 RPM BIOS control, 5000 RPM manual) due to Dell not publishing any documentation. The fan speed of a laptop can be increased using third party apps like SpeedFan and Argus Monitor. The BIOS seems to override fan control by default, so install dell-bios-fan-control-git AUR to give control of the fan to the OS. To make the laptop to run cooler, use i8kutils AUR to manually set the fan start temperature. The default fan settings allow the CPU to reach 70-85 ☌ before the fan speeds up.
